Google has unveiled Google Chrome Frame, a plugin that turns Internet Explorer into a standards-compliant browser, with a fast JavaScript engine.
Sites can take advantage of this by using a META tag, while users must have the plugin installed (for IE 6, 7 or 8).

Apparently, this is due to IE shortcomings and an important strategy for Google Wave, which will ask IE users to install this plugin.
This should be good news, as now there is more competition and the IE team might be forced to pay even more attention to standards compliance.
